Another rumor that proved true. Microsoft have just announced that a former Qualcomm executive, Peggy Johnson, is officially joining the company to head up global business development.
As part of her new role, she will report to CEO Satya Nadella directly, and will be given charge of industrywide strategic business deals and partnerships with key customers, OEMs, third-party publishers and industry influencers.
Here is the official announcement, by the way.
Satya Nadella, in his characteristic fashion praised this new hire, and welcomed Johnson to the team, explaining that the Qualcomm veteran has what it takes to help Microsoft with its new approach — cloud first, mobile first, and all that good stuff.
Johnson, too, released a statement:
“I’m thrilled to be joining Microsoft at such a pivotal time for the company and the industry. The opportunity to build new and surprising partnerships to help Microsoft succeed in a mobile-first, cloud-first world is truly exciting, and I look forward to leading these efforts.”
News about her taking up a seat in Redmond came out towards the end of last month, and this is part of the reorganization that Satya Nadella is pursuing for the technology titan.
Peggy Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the San Diego State University, and has, over the years, held key positions at hardware giant Qualcomm, where she was responsible for commercializing new business opportunities and oversee development of strategic relationships.
Microsoft sure could use some of that.
