Microsoft have said that they will be launching a version of their best selling productivity suite Office on the Ipad.

Microsoft will probably break out the apps from the suite and sell them separately and will probably make quite a lot of money.

This is however a major double edged sword for Microsoft if they take this approach.

On one hand, the Ipad is the tablet juggernaut to beat and if Microsoft can get those users on Office, it is a substantial amount of revenue for the company.

On the other hand, once Ipad users are on Office, you have just removed a MAJOR incentive for anyone to buy a Windows 8 Tablet.

You have also removed the one selling point that you could have made to CIO’s for selling Windows 8 Tablets into the enterprise – integration with Office.

Now, I’m sure Microsoft will scale down the versions of Office that will go out on the Ipad and I’m sure the case can be made that Windows 8 Tablets can be more thoroughly integrated with the enterprise but still… it’s a tough decision.

So, I’m going to punt and pass the decision to you.

Scaled-down verions of Word, Exel, Picture Manager and perhaps also Outlook is what I think should be in this “app”. Thus, documents made on an Apple engine can interact with Windows, and of course this makes the point in selling Windows-based tablets a tricky question.

If Microsoft office” Full Version” was available too Win8 Professional, Win8 Ultimate Operating Systems and not in the Win8 Home versions and my thoughts on this is business’s that have the higher OS’s would benifit than Business’s just using the lower priced OS’s. I can see individuals with Home having to pay for the different Apps. as this would benifit both Microsoft and Business.

Even though the ipad can do a lot, I don’t to many people will sacrifice something that small to do a word doument of any importance.

Don’t think availability of office or not will be the deciding factor in buying an iPad over W8 tablet. But office on iPad will make keeping your windows desktop or laptop easier rather than switching all to the apple platform.

Office would be great for Creating content … It is extreme overkill for Viewing content on the iPad.

I can summarize M move in a sentence: “we need apple to survive!” thanks to iPad, Microsoft will probably sell some million copies of probably the only decent product try sell. And sure enough, iPad version of m office will easily outsell win 8 tablet… Reality kiks in! Microsoft is so obsolete that need apple to even try to survive. Nice! Rip Steve and thanks!

Exclusiveness is the key; pretty much like what happens between Xbox360 and PS3; finally, users end up buying both, just because of the game the wanted.

No they should not. One thing i dislike about Apple is: WHEN THEY BARK THE US ATTORNEY LISTENS.
Apple crys to much with law suits.
    Get real Apple.

  • Whichrmd

yes they should why let apple be the monly one with a ipad but it would have to be better than i pad 2 so for sure go ahead and release one that will kick arse

  • Jamesstarnes55

Hi, it`s James. I believe it is to the best interest of young students if Office is added to the       Ipad.

If they put it out I-Pad it may work on I-Phone as well

  • Manuel Tokmakjian

apple had always been at our face and he did great sales with its iPad now why will we give them another opportunity to make it beetr? to mak people get ipad2? since MSoffice, is the best and the top hit in office apps and alot asked and demanded why to “give it away”? now if there was a chance to attract people to Windows through office we will be losing that too! why make ipad desirable, if people want office they should refer to Microsoft and only Microsoft, not apple, and besides what happened to you guys you have a windows tablet at release, why risk it’s chances of sales and beating ipad, i say NO and strongly disagree with this decission of Microsoft, with all due respect!

  • Jason Deveau

As much as I hate Apple, yes it makes a lot of sense. The market for app sales on iPad is enormous, to ignore that is wrong and another company will fill the demand for productivity apps.
