Schools Continue To Choose Windows 8 Devices

That is, ahead of Chromebooks, Android and iOS hardware. Windows 8 devices are steadily conquering the education market, and we have some more positive developments on this front.

Microsoft recently talked about how the education sector is embracing the modern version of Windows, and the company managed to convince more schools to make the switch.

In fact, several of these institutions talked about how the competing platforms were really not suitable for their needs. Many administrators criticized Android, claiming that parents and students were complaining that Google’s mobile platform was not really helpful when it came to learning.

In the words of David Humphreys, Director of ICT at Brighton:

“For our senior years – that’s years 7 to 12 – we had the Android program. Both parents and students were telling us that the devices weren’t as suitable as they would like for learning, and they were seen as more of a device for content consumption. Pretty quickly we decided on a Windows 8 platform.”

This is the Brighton Grammar School for boys in Australia, by the way.

Similar sentiments were echoed by California’s Fresno Unified School District that decided in favor of Windows 8.1 devices ahead of Chromebooks, Android and iOS powered hardware.

Redmond highlighted this important win in several videos that are available on the page above, but the prevalent theme seems to be that Windows 8.1 machines better met the needs of these institutions, when it comes to security, management as well as core requirements.

All in a good day’s work for Microsoft.

Windows RT is really a good choice for students. Not able to pick up all the viruses on the internet as it’s not x86 compatible and can’t install bogus software online. Plus it has office suite for school use.
For those who don’t know or don’t care about maintaining their computers, ARM devices are a better choice. However, they are often misleaded by bloggers saying that ARM devices can’t run windows software and are of no good.

Well, it looks like some of the people working in education are much smarter than the general population. Where are the people who say Windows 8 can’t be used for anything now?

No Surprise there. Macs have their advantages, but on an educational or work level, Windows is still the best option and it’s not even close.

Least shocking news ever. I don’t think I ever seen schools or businesses switching off of Windows unless something disastrous happens.

Ofcourse shool choose M$ devices because they have an obligated webcam and mic build in so they can be spied on.

Not the first time this is happening.

Has nobody noticed that webcams and mics are still more requered in laptops, tablets, smartphones en AIO pc`s?

And you just think it is just meant to be just for communication?

Well you better wake up then!
