Beam me up, Scotty! The friendly old Scott Guthrie is a familiar figure among the cloud community. Whenever a new feature is added to Windows Azure, chances are that this guy is there with a helpful blog post or two explaining the new addition.

Microsoft recently had some additions and subtraction of their own when they announced Satya Nadella the new CEO in early February.

He left his important position as the head of the Cloud and Enterprise unit at Redmond.

And now the void has been filled — officially, that is. Scott Guthrie took over duties for that division on an interim basis back then, but he is now made the permanent head of the department. A well-earned position for a well-respected executive, it must be said.

Here is what Satya Nadella had to say on this:

“As a leader, Scott has shown incredible energy and insight into how we create technology that others can build on, and which can be built on what others have created.”

Guthrie previously headed up application development on Windows Azure (now called Microsoft Azure) as a vice president. He was also the co-developer of ASP.NET, along with Mark Anders.

Satya Nadella also confirmed in the abovementioned email sent to employees that Stephen Elop will be taking over as head of Microsoft’s devices division, as has been heard here. The key management changes just keep on coming, don’t they?

  1. A huge promotion for Guthrie! Best of luck to him. He sounds extremely qualified. I think he’s the right man for the job.

  2. Obviously, he has big shoes to fill. I dont know if he can do as good of a job as the now CEO, but he does seem to have the ability. We will wait and see how this ends up.
