Windows Phone 8 is finally here and with it comes some major improvements over the older Windows Phone 7. That being said, many of your apps are still going to be Windows Phone 7 apps and not new ones optimized for the new OS and its NT-core.
Luckily, Skype’s fully Windows Phone 8 optimized experience is finally here– at least in Beta. The Skype Preview app for Windows Phone 8 is in the store now if you use the direct link, but isn’t searchable. So clicking through the link is the only way to get there for now.
What’s new in the Windows Phone 8 version of Skype? Quite a bit. The app now runs in the background and uses minimal battery life. You can also use your normal dialer for calls and the incoming calls act just like any cellular call would. Contacts and other information is also now stored in the cloud– so if you get a new phone, you don’t need to transfer that information, it goes wherever you go.
Full video chat is also present in Windows Phone 8 and is said to work extremely well with Windows Phone 8. If you are lucky enough to already have a Windows Phone 8 handset, check out the app and let us know what you think.
