Windows 8 brings quite a few changes to the table, including massive speeds improvements when compared to Windows 7. Probably one of the most noticeable changes is the new Start Screen. Some users love, it some hate it. Others are neutral about its presence.
Any time a major change comes to an OS, there is some resistance. If you are the type that is jumping in and making the most of the new UI, you might notice that it is somewhat lacking when it comes to personalization options.
With Windows 8 start screen you have choices such as a few colors and stock background images, but that’s about as far as it goes. One easy way to get more customization options into your Start Screen experience is to use the Stardock program, Decor8.
This program allows you to get any color or picture and turn it into a background for your new UI. You also have the option to create a multiple background list, which will automatically rotate out the backgrounds at certain intervals.
The bad news is that customizing tools like Decor8 might be easy, but they aren’t free. The app includes a 30-day trial and costs $4.99 to buy.
Are there free solutions out there? Yes, but many of them are somewhat complex to use from what I’ve seen.
Odds are that there are at least a few easy to use free options I haven’t discovered though, have you found a solution that works as well as Decor8 but doesn’t require any kind of purchase?
