The original Surface RT has seen glorious days, and it has seen a few ignoble ones. Microsoft’s first tablet, more or less, can be termed as a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to sales performance.

But speaking of performances, the tablet still is a readily capable device.

That is why it still finds an audience with people that want to grab an able tablet at an affordable price. It has been made available at discounted prices every now and then, and according to a new report, the Windows RT powered slate will soon retail for as low as $199.

This is the 32GB variant, and a number of specialty stores across the United States that are set to open later this month will debut this exciting new promotion.

In fact, as part of this new discount drive, Dell’s Venue 8 Pro tablet will retail for just $99 — that is as good as price as any for an 8-inch tablet you ca find.

Perhaps the best part is that these two devices will be available at these special prices as long as supplies last. So in case any of you are planning to grab these tablets, and are in the vicinity of these new store locations, now is the time for action.

Here are the new stores that will be opening this month:

Alpharetta, GA, Thousand Oaks, CA, Tucson, AZ, Des Moines, IA, Broomfield, CO, San Antonio, TX, Omaha, NE, Columbia, MD, South Portland, ME, Baton Rouge, LA, and Boise, ID.

  1. I don’t know if I should grab an RT, get the mini, or wait for the release of the mini to have an affect on the price of the 2.

    • The Mini sounds like a perfect blend of portability and performance. The newer Qualcomm chips probably run faster than the Tegra 3 on the RT, and chances are that cellular is built in too.

We’ll have to wait and see, but at $199 the Surface RT has its merits.
