Or more specifically, March 31, 2018. Microsoft made a generous offer to buyers of the Windows 10 S powered Surface Laptop, in announcing that they will be able to switch to Windows 10 Pro for free.

Till the end of that year, that is.

And if thought this was not enough time to make a decision on whether Windows 10 S suits your needs, then there is good news — the software titan has extended this limited time offer another three months.

Redmond made this news official earlier today alongside announcing that the Surface Laptop is available in more markets and additional colors.

Raphael Aquino Jose, Surface Senior Product Marketing Manager:

“We hope this provides increased flexibility for those people searching for the perfect back-to-school or holiday gift.”

Well, it certainly is perfect as long as you make the move to Windows 10 Pro.

If you miss this offer, though, you will have to pay $49 to upgrade and get access to the massive library of Win32 applications, which in other words refer to those millions and millions of traditional desktop software programs that run on Windows.

Otherwise, you are stuck with what is available on the Windows Store.

Microsoft may be pitching the Surface Laptop more to students right now, but figure in the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, free or otherwise, and this is a device that will appeal to any Windows or Surface fan.

This extension, meanwhile, is very, very welcome.
