Time for an annual ritual. Or is it biannual? Or monthly? Anyway, finding the best antivirus for Windows 8.1 home users was the point of this test that the folks over at AV-TEST just conducted.

Several antivirus products have been put through the paces, and it seems like Bitdefender Internet Security 2015, Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 and Qihoo 360 Antivirus 5.0 are currently the best options out there on the market.

Here is the full list for February 2015, by the way:

Best Antivirus For Windows 8.1 February 2015

All three security productions mentioned above scored the maximum points, 6 out of 6 in protection, performance and usability. Bitdefender and Kaspersky, obviously, are regulars at the top of such tablets, but Qihoo, the Chinese solution, sure has made some impressive strides in the past few years.

It blocked 100% of zero-day vulnerabilities, while at the same time detected all prevalent malware discovered in the past four weeks.

This, while reporting no false positives and erroneous warnings.

And if you’re wondering, Windows Defender still does what it’s supposed to do — and that is offers basic protection. It managed 0 points for protection, while getting 3.5 for performance and the full 6 when it comes to usability.

A number of free solutions are also listed, AVG Antivirus Free 2015 leading the charge.

Handy pointers if you want to decide on which antivirus to choose for your Windows 8.1 devices.

Probably because it’s baseline protection, the minimum. Up until recently they used to test Windows Defender, maybe something changed here.

Kaspersky users know it’s been a rough road, but they seem to be staying number one year after year. It’s the only thing I use.
