During the Windows Phone Summit, Microsoft announced that the existing Windows phones will not be upgraded to Windows Phone 8 instead they will get an update to Windows Phone7.8.

Well Windows Phone 7.8 still has lots to offer. The biggest among them is the new start screen.

Microsoft will be providing the new Windows Phone 8 start screen in Windows Phone 7.8 The tiles now will have three sizes instead of the two available earlier.

The tiles are live and are inspired by Windows 8.
