          I think this is a good hire, but that doesn’t mean Alan couldn’t have done a good job.

            Well Ray,

            Alan would need at least a couple of years to get up to speed with Microsoft as a whole entity before he could realistically make any changes toward the direction Microsoft needs to go. What Microsoft doesn’t need is someone in an interim phase (kind of like an interim coach on a sports team). They need someone for the long haul, and Alan doesn’t fit that scenario. That’s all I’m saying …
