If you move large file around regularly, or like to carry them with you wherever you go, then the new Samsung T5 external SSD could well be the best thing you purchase this year.
The Korean giant has made a name for itself in SSD storage.
And although it’s internal SSDs are wonderfully capable, the company also creates some really delightful portable SSDs that not only look great, but a very reliable and fast way to manage and transfer all manners of data from one to another.
Samsung introduced its first external SSD a couple of years back at CES 2015.
And now the company is here with its latest model, the T5.
It still looks like its predecessor, and still makes use of the V-NAND flash memory, but also included are improvements like an updated USB 3.1 Gen 2 port that makes data transfers between compatible devices even faster.
The company claims that the T5 will have transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s, thanks to USB Type-C, which while a lot faster than a standard SSD, is a country mile behind what M.2 SSDs have been able to achieve.
Nevertheless, this speed is more than enough for most uses cases, save for those that deal with particularly large files, like content creators or science and IT professionals. The best thing about this portable SSD is that you can safely throw it in a bag without any worry.
This latest arrival is available in two colors — Deep Black and Alluring Blue.
The blue color is reserved for 250GB and 500GB models of the T5, while the 1TB and 2TB variants are available in black. As for pricing, the smallest model will set you back $129.99, and the largest one can be yours for just $799.99.
