I’ll keep this short and sweet.

Microsoft marketing – here’s how you do it.

You wait till the Oscars and buy ALL of the ad space – 100 million eyeballs.

You then pay the host (25 million Twitter followers) to take a photo WITH YOUR PHONE of stars that gets retweeted ridiculously:

Then you sit back and absorb all the media and press as:

In less than an hour, DeGeneres’ photo was already up to 871,000 retweets, with 210,000 favorites. She easily surpassed the previous record holder, President Barack Obama, with his election night victory photo of him hugging wife Michelle Obama, which was retweeted 777,000 times.

*sigh*

I wonder why Samsung are winning –  maybe because they are taking marketing seriously. Ironic that the company that needs the most mobile phone press wasn’t super aggressive this time out.

Well played Samsung, well played.

Point well taken, Onuora! Microsoft indeed needs to be more aggressive with their marketing. For instance, I really like the PS4’s ad of “It’s such a perfect day”. But I will not go out and buy one just because of it, but I can see others will and have (Sony has sold 6 million consoles in just 3 months, after all). However, the Samsung phone that is being used here thus far is not flying off the shelves. I played around with one last Saturday at the local Verizon store, and was NOT impressed. So yeah, Samsung needed to pull this one off, for good reason!

Yeah and I forgot to count the numerous reshares on websites like mine.

      Brilliantly done.

I’ve been saying this for the longest. Microsoft needs to advertise it’s products on shows like the Oscars. Not just with advertisements, but have the winners announced on Surfaces like a lot of the other award shows do with tablets. Have celebrities talk about your products. Have them tweet pics they’ve taken. Have them talk onto the tonight show with a Surface or Windows Phone in hand. The point is get famous people doing cool stuff with your products. Then you make sure people are talking about whatever they’re doing in the media. Heck place your products in reality shows. Get a couple rappers to mention them in songs.
