Windows 10 Mobile Build 15250 Actually Brings Along Some New Features

It actually does! In a surprise move, Microsoft has just released Windows 10 Mobile build 15250, alongside Windows 10 build 16288 for PCs that arrived in the Fast ring of the preview program.

And the mobile version actually does have more in terms of new features!

This new version comes two weeks after Windows 10 Mobile build 15245, which led many to believe that that was the RTM version of the mobile operating system. Not to be, says build 15250, as it flies off servers for smartphones enrolled in the Fast ring.

Now, admittedly, these are not some earth shattering additions.

But enterprise users of Microsoft’s mobile OS will be pleased to know that the company has finally introduced a two-factor authentication unlock mechanism — Windows 10 Mobile now has an additional security layer.

As Redmond puts it:

“With two factor unlock, an enterprise can enforce an additional security layer to their sensitive data via an MDM policy. Once two factor unlock is enabled, a phone user will have to enter a numeric pin followed by an enterprise-defined factor to unlock the phone.”

Some AppLocker improvements are also part of the package in this new version, which you can see in action in the following screenshots.

Microsoft even managed to sneak in some enhancements for VPNs in this build, completing a trio of features that are sure to be welcome by companies and enterprise users of the mobile operating platform.

A bunch of general changes, improvements, and fixes have also made the cut, the details of which you can find out by pointing your web browsers to this here link.

Now, all we need to see is whether this build 15250 is the final RTM version of the Fall Update for Windows 10 Mobile, or if Microsoft has a few more sweet, sweet surprises in store for us. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

To get this build, fire up the Settings app on your phone, and then head to Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Ensuring in the process that your device is enrolled in the Fast ring of the preview program first.
