Windows 8.1 App Watch: Asphalt 8: Airborne

Gameloft is at it again. The popular gaming brand has launched a new title in the popular Asphalt racing series, hot on the heels of Asphalt 7: Heat that made their way to the Windows Store a little while back.

And just like the previous title, Asphalt 8: Airborne seems to be on the right track — it has already notched up high ratings and an impressive number of downloads. And remarkably the game boasts higher production values than its predecessor.

But before we get to that, here is a selection from the official description for your reading pleasure:

“The best arcade racing game series reaches a new turning point! Perform dynamic, high-speed aerial stunts in an intense driving experience powered by a brand-new physics engine!

A game for fans of extreme arcade racing, with real dream cars and phenomenal graphics that will also please racing simulation enthusiasts.”

The racing game brings along a career mode that can be played through alongside the quick racing options. A notable selection of licensed car models from Ferrari to Lamborghini, and fast paced action ensures an amazing experience.

Asphalt 8 also introduces airborne action to the racing series — players can use ramps to jump, and then perform barrel rolls in the air and pull off other stunts while racing. This means that the game sticks to its arcade roots, instead of veering into simulation territory, but it’s all good fun.

A free trial is available, but the game itself retails for just $1.99, which in of itself is a bit of a steal.

All three Windows 8 processors are supported, including ARM. The only concerned may be the download size, which comes in at 1.28GB, but is well worth the time, effort and space requirements.
