Windows 8.1 App Watch: CBS News

CBS News

Been a while since a major news app launched for Windows 8.1, but CBS News is here to remedy this. It brings breaking news and developing stories to all devices powered by Microsoft’s OS.

CBS Interactive is not new to the Windows Store — they have launched a handful of apps for the platform. Four, prior to this, namely CBS, CBS Sports, CBS Sports Fantasy and CNET. But this one is their best solution yet, refined and polished.

The official description, first:

“CBS News for Windows 8.1 Universal app (for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1) keeps you updated on breaking news and the latest developing stories from around the world.

Browse and search the latest news stories from categories including U.S. News, World, Politics, Science/Technology, Health, Entertainment, Moneywatch, & Crime. Stay well-informed on all today’s most relevant and timely topics.”

Nicely explained.

The app features news, video clips and full episodes of the popular CBS shows like CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. A live stream of CBSN is also available, free of any geographic restrictions, meaning everyone around the globe can view it.

No other Windows 8.1 apps provides live news, at least not right now!

This free app also allows users to share stories with friend and family via email, or the Facebook or Twitter integration. The UI is clean, the app fast, and content breezy.

No wonder CBS News is rated 4.7 at the time of this writing, with 49 ratings in total, 42 of them five stars across the board. Sublimely function, and worth a download on both Windows and Windows Phone. It obviously supports all flavors of the former, x86, x64 and ARM.
