If you have been holding out for a quality checkers game on your shiny new Windows 8 device, this recent release from popular developer Random Salad Games could just be the things for you.

It is hard to go wrong with a name like Checkers Deluxe, provided you know what you are doing.

Luckily, the developers behind this know full well, and they have crafted a neatly presented and pleasingly attractive experience. This free game offers 6 different variations of the game, from standard to tournament checkers, even some international varieties.

More on that after the official description:

“Play Checkers Deluxe, a fun and free version of the classic game of Checkers. Enjoy 6 different game variations, including Standard, Casual, and Tournament checkers. Try to beat the computer on all four difficulty settings, or just play with your friends. Detailed HD graphics and animations round out this great game.”

In terms of graphics and visual presentation, Checkers Deluxe is very much similar in polish to other popular titles from the developer. And in terms of gameplay, this is another win. The various difficulty levels of the AI provide ample challenge.

You also get hints for which moves you can make.

The game has just recently landed, but there is enough gloss and grace in this initial version to make it another success. You will want to check it out if you are into board games, and have Windows 8 running on x86, x64 or ARM processors.

Sounds great from the description! I adore checkers, so I have to download this. Is there an option to play people online or is it just against a computer?

What happened to the site? Its horrible. The new design looks reminiscent of programs in the 1995 era.
