Windows 8.1 App Watch: Comedy Central

Make room for another official app for the Windows platform. An important official app, at that. Fans of Comedy Central can download this free application in order to watch their favorite shows right in the Modern UI.

You can watch full episodes of a number of shows the next day they air, including favorites like the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Review, Workaholics, Futurama and South Park. A few of these shows do not require signing in via TV provider, while others do.

The official description:

“Get the latest episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, South Park and @midnight, plus other shows. Seriously, there’s hours and hours of stuff to watch: sign in with your TV provider to access everything, including Tosh.0, Key & Peele, Workaholics and more.

You can also kick back with great stand-up specials, archive shows (including Chappelle’s Show) and full seasons of returning series.”

There is also an archive section and standup specials, and the streaming video quality is of reasonably good quality, although clips are split up into chunks in order to make room for commercials during broadcast. This is a slight inconvenience, more so when playing back videos through an external display.

The design, however, is standard Metro, with big tiles and simple navigation.

Another plus is that this is a universal app, though some refinements in load times would be quite welcome. But as far as first efforts go, this one is wonderful. This app works on both desktop computers and tablets running the modern version of Windows.

All the tv channel apps are great. As data plans become more manageable for streaming videos, tv apps will only increase in value. Comedy Central is a great one to have!

Stand up specials? Count me in. A must have app for comedy fans I believe. A well deserving choice for the app watch.
