Care for a stylishly dark and violent endless runner? With some combat depth? Then the duly named Dark Lands is for you. This free game recently arrived on the Windows Store.

And it puts you in command of a warrior who is running on his own, continuously. The first thing you notice is that the game only really works with a touch device — you are going to struggle without one. The controls are easy to grasp, it’s the execution that demands precision.

Beyond that, however, the game offers atmospheric environments, silhouetted visuals, myriad of enemies and fantastical creatures, along with 50 achievements that you can unlock.

The official description:

“Dark Lands is an addictive mix of an infinity runner fantasy horror game with a dynamic combat system. Take your hero on an epic journey of defeating evil forces who corrupted the land. Beat enemies like goblins, orcs, skeletons and monstrous trolls and ogres! Fight unique bosses like the fierce Currusor or the deadly Minotaurus!”

The controls are standard. Jump and slide, and occasionally stop running to attack or defend against creatures and boss monsters. You can spend money on upgrades to level up during your journey.

This free game is rated 18+ for blood, gore, intense violence and mature humor, so that’s another thing you have to keep in mind. And finally, Dark Lands only works on x86 and x64 based versions of Windows. ARM misses out, once again, even though it has been released on other mobile platforms.
