Before there were social networks, there were social sites. Devi8t for DeviantART allows you to enjoy one such website right from the Modern UI of your device.

DeviantART is one of the oldest platforms for artists to showcase their creations and for users to comment on all manner of art — drawings, paintings, wallpapers, photos, sketches, even themes and software plugins. Art, as the saying goes, is art.

This is an unofficial client that lets you browse categories of interest. Not all that high on features, admittedly, but this is an initial release, and hopefully is improved in time.

Before we get to the details, here is the official description in full:

“Browse DeviantART the largest social network for artists! View thousands of works of art from hundreds of artists across a wide range of media. This is the first release with more features coming soon!”

This free app actually improves the browsing and viewing experience, in the sense that it displays more results onscreen at the same time than what you get in a web browser. But that’s where the funs stop.

You can click (or tap) on a results to view it full screen in the app.

There are no options to interact with or download the files to the local system. Same goes for leaving comments or opening up standard pages. You can’t even search from within the app, which makes this universal app all the more limiting. For all modern flavors of the operating system.

I love this site, so I’m definitely going to check out the app. I’ve spent hours looking through people’s art, and so much of the stuff is amazing and better than I ever imagined I’d find on it. A great app watch choice for sure.

Seems like a cool application. I am going to try this out and see if I enjoy it as much as I think I will.
