There is always more room for social apps on the Windows Store, more so if they are as unique as this. Billed as a hashtag search engine, Hashtagr is an app that supports several social networking sites.
Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Instagram, all can be searched at the same time using hashtags.
Search results are displayed as tiles on the screen — this is Metro interface through and through. Icons at the top right corner indicate which network the results have come from.
The official description, in full:
“THE Hashtag Search Engine. Search and discover what people are saying in different social circles. Hashtagr’s already simple design combined with Metro’s design language turns Hashtagr into a fun and fluid app on Windows 8.1 with a highly interactive user interface.”
The download size only comes in at 57KB, which not only makes it one of the smallest apps on the Windows Store, but subsequently has a say in the feature set — which essentially means that the app is low on options.
For example, it is not possible to click on pictures to load larger versions of them.
Now, admittedly, this is something that takes a little while to develop and refine, but more options here will just make this free app all that more impressive. The only clickable items, at the time of this writing, are the Twitter hashtags, and these are opened in a new browser window.
Fingers crossed, future updates add in these sorely missing features. More customization options would also be welcome. The app works with all versions of Windows 8.1, including devices that are running Windows RT 8.1.
