Windows 8.1 App Watch: Jelly Smash

Windows 8.1 App Watch: Jelly Smash

No better way to start a new week, than with a clone of Candy Crush. Well, not a pixel by pixel clone, but Jelly Smash plays awfully similar to the other hit game.

The developers have, however, added in a few notable changes and features in order to differentiate this from the hit sensation. Then again, these are the same guys that developed Angry Gran Run, so go figure. The grandma, does indeed, feature in this new game too, if you are wondering.

Obviously, not overly original, the basic gameplay mechanics are quite identical. You have to match three or more items to remove them from the board. Do that, and a few new elements are added in.

Here is what the official description states:

“Join the angriest granny around in an adventure that spans the world…The world of Jellies! Make a splash with Angry Gran and join her in the hunt to discover the mystery behind the Jellies! Match 3, 4, 5 and more Jellies in the most colourful puzzle game you’ll ever play.”

Colorful? You got that right, sister!

The flamboyant and vibrant palette is evident the moment you open the game. It is a very well designed title, no doubt. Some of the interface elements are a little rough, the music is repetitive. But the included power-ups, special jelly pieces, and multi-stage levels keep thing interesting.

This free game requires Windows 8.1 to function, but is available on all versions of the operating system, including x86, x64 and ARM. Touch optimized, of course, but keyboard and mouse users are invited too.

I’ve never played candy crush, but based on the picture it looks pretty much identical to when I’ve seen friends playing it. I guess it’s never too late to replicate the popularity. At least having this option on the Windows store is a positive.

Free, candy crush knock-off for Windows. It makes logical sense for them. It’s not my cup of tea, but it’ll probably be relatively popular.

Copycat? Yes. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be good if not better. For instance, Minion Rush based off Despicable Me is a complete copy of Subway Surfer only better in my opinion. We’ll have to see.

Great point. I’ve played Minion rush and it’s a great app! I love it and think it’s a better version. With this logic, I’ll give Jelly smash a shot.
