Not many notable releases on the Windows Store this past week, except for Sonic Dash, that is to say, but Kaboom Monsters is one of the better games that arrived on the platform.
This is a puzzle game, with strategic elements.
You play against the computer, and each player has a deck of cards with values on each side of the card, along with a counter. On your turn, you place these cards on the board, and any adjacent of your opponent that has a lower value is captured in that turn.
A selection from the official description:
“Master the art of strategy. Pick up your cards and battle your way through the lands of Apathia.
Choose between Trolls, Yetis or Orcs and start building up your deck. In Kaboom Monsters you play a hero who needs to find the dark wizard who cursed your village and defeat him.”
You also earn resources while playing the game, which can then be used to upgrade or equip cards.
The overall goal of each map is to have more points than your opponent, as you may have guessed, and this provides for some engaging gameplay and an attractive mix of strategy and puzzle. The presentation is slick, with a fun story, making it a good download. For x86 and x64 versions of Windows, by the way.
