Windows 8.1 App Watch: Last Heroes

I don’t know when it started, but zombies are now truly the whipping boys of gaming. In fact, no talk on mobile gaming can now be complete without a mention of the countless games with hordes and hordes of zombies to kill.

Last Heroes – The Final Stand is another such game, this one is of the castle defense variety whereby players have to defend a barricade against onrushing zombies. You get more than 100 levels in 5 urban areas, with 3 unique heroes at your disposal.

Here is the official description:

“Last Heroes! Last Stand! Last Hope! As the only remaining last heroes left standing against brutal zombies, you are humanities last hope. Use all your specialized skills to survive the onslaught of enemy zombies and avenge other fallen heroes.

Get ready to utilize stockpiles of powerful weapons, supercharge them with upgrades and build up your defenses in strategic ways to protect the Last Heroes. The world’s most addictive strategic defense shooting game is here!”

This free game comes from an established developer with a track record of hits, and while available on other platforms, it has recently been ported to Windows 8.1.

What this also means is not only are the 2D visuals nicely detailed, and effects rich, the gameplay is also quite optimized. You have a variety of zombies to defeat, and get a multitude of weapons and upgrades that you can buy. Games modes too, are plenty, with boss zombies that put up quite a challenge.

In the end though, it all comes down to defeating enemies before they tear down the barricade, but it makes for a fun, entertaining experience. ARM support is, obviously, included.

The graphics look pretty sweet to me. This definitely seems like it can be a successful and popular app in the windows store. My guess is younger-teenage boys will be the main audience for this. We may see a lot of kids on their parents’ phones playing this game.
