Considering the close association Microsoft enjoys (or enjoyed) with NBC, it came as no surprise that an official NBC News app arrived on the Windows Store soon after launch of Windows 8.

In the months and years since release, the news application has climbed to tall height in terms of usage and ratings, while at the same time receiving a number of updates. All this make it one of the best apps for Windows 8.1 users that want to stay on top of what is happening around the globe.

Here is the simple enough official description:

“The NBC News app empowers users to quickly and fluidly browse, read and watch original and exclusive news stories from all of NBC News’ trusted brands. In addition to TODAY and the rest of NBC News, users can access our growing stable of topical blogs covering technology, politics, entertainment and more. News stories are cached on the device for offline access.”

It says it all, really. All.

This feature rich application brings everything from brands like, TODAY, NBC Nightly News as well as other NBC News shows and sources. While at the same time offering support for offline access, social sharing and the usual Modern UI features like Snap Views, Live Tiles, and more.

The free app is a quick download at just 1.9 MB and supports all versions of Microsoft’s modern operating platform, including those designed for tablets utilizing ARM based processors.

NBC is a little late to the party when it comes to news apps, but with their brand power, it shouldn’t matter too much. Nice move for both companies. I’ll check this app out.

  3. Looks like a solid app. Nothing more, nothing less. All news apps are pretty much the same. This has NBC attached to it though, so it’ll be popular.
