Windows 8.1 App Watch: Reuters

Windows 8.1 App Watch: Reuters

It is not often we cover two news apps in one week, but after highlight NBC News recently, it is time for another quality addition. The official Reuters app is now available for Windows 8.1 users.

This free app brings curated content from Thomson Reuters, the popular news agency.

Both the US and the UK editions can be accessed from this app. And jovial information is that articles are automatically downloaded whenever the application is started, so they are readily available, even without Internet access. Nice job on this.

Here is how the official description is compiled:

“Access professional-grade content from Reuters, the world’s leading source for reputable and trustworthy news and information for businesses professionals. Reuters’ app for Windows 8 provides the knowledge to act and gain competitive edge with access to the latest in international news, business, politics, entertainment, and technology.”

In terms of the UI and design, the app is everything you would expect — nothing fancy, just plain and easily readable news. The photos and sharp, and the slideshows sharper.

Streaming video, however, is not downloaded. Rightly so. But they are available to be streamed on request. Rounding up the content that is available, you can find everything from world news, to business, money, health and technology. Standard affair.

The touch optimized app is available in English language, and supports all three processors that can run Microsoft’s modern operating platform, x86, x64 and ARM.

This used to be a big app on blackberry I’m pretty sure. With this and NBC app, we definitely have solid news options when it comes to apps. Nice!

I downloaded this and used to have it on another platform. It’s a very solid app. The layout isn’t my favorite, but it’s good to have nevertheless.
