Windows 8.1 App Watch: Star Wars: Assault Team

As Han Solo might say, I’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news first. It has recently been reported that Disney is shifting focus from developing mobile apps and instead wants to create AAA games, going forward.

The good news is that the company has created some of the best mobile apps in recent memory, and Star Wars: Assault Team is another gem in this gold chest.

Collectable card games are not everyone’s cup of tea, but the developers behind this free game have worked their magic, creating a polished affair, complete with fully rendered 3D environments, authentic production, special effects, sounds, music, and writing. Not to mention some really neat gameplay.

Let’s go over the official description first, then:

“Infiltrate enemy fleets and outsmart your opponents in exciting, face-to-face combat. Embark on epic missions to escape from enemy ships, find the Wookiee resistance, survive ambushes on the streets of Mos Espa, and much more! Fight for ultimate control of the galaxy in this strategic combat game, where every move counts!”

Every move counts, sister, and this is one guarantee you can take to the bank!

While some of the earlier missions are almost a breeze, things get rather complicated in later levels, demanding the player to think their moves through. The story missions are fun because you feel like you are playing a RPG instead of an actual card game, but battling with players is also a righto experience.

Hard to fault this tidy title, with almost everything working to perfection. The only complaint would be the insane loading times, but that is a small tradeoff for the excellent experience. This popular game supports all versions of Windows 8.1 including those powered by ARM based processors.

Another free star wars game? Fantastic. I love the work they’re putting in. Windows app store is getting better by the day.

Is this the second Star Wars app released in two weeks? I know there was one last week, but I’m not sure if these are the same. Either way, I will check this out because it looks awesome. Being free doesn’t hurt either. :p

I’m sad Disney is shifting away from apps. The graphics look spectacular and the app is free. I have to try this when I get some time.

I like the format. Easy on the early levels and gets more difficult. It gets me hooked early and then I’m determined to beat the harder levels. Free, good graphics, multiple levels, and by Disney. Are there any negatives here?

This looks pretty detailed for an app! Great visuals and detail. Disney struck gold again. Great app for Microsoft app store to have. Bravo!

I am huge fan of card collecting and Star Wars, so this is right up my alley. This seems perfect for me! I need to download this tonight.
