The lull of the last few days on the Windows Store has been broken in some style by a couple of strategy games. Star Wars: Commander follows Age of Empires: Castle Siege in delivering some battling fun.

The newest game from Disney arrives for the Windows platform soon after launching on iOS and Android. And similar to the recent hit Star Wars: Assault Team, this one, too, takes place during the first trilogy of movies, with a cast of iconic characters like Darth Vader, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Time for some official description:

“Charge into battle on distant planets, and lead your troops to victory in this action-packed, combat strategy game! Build a base, recruit an unstoppable force, and challenge players across the Star Wars universe in Star Wars™: Commander!

During a time of Galactic Civil War, competing forces need allies for their cause. The Rebellion rallies for justice and freedom, while the Empire seeks control of the galaxy. Where does your allegiance lie? Will you side with the Empire’s strength and relentlessness, or the Rebellion’s heroism and resourcefulness? The choice is yours!”

This free game gives you control of a base with the objective of improving it on all levels — economic, offensive and defensive. You can play this game against the computer or other human players, meaning other players can also raid your base and lay waste to it.

The presentation is slick, and the visuals have that same artsy style of the previous Star Wars title.

But be prepared to part ways with either time or money if you want to get ahead in this, as this game uses in-app monetization. It is a breezy download though, and well worth a dip for fans of strategy games or Star Wars. Universal, with support for x86, x64 and ARM versions of Windows.
