And here we go again! Microsoft is busy preparing for the public preview version of Windows 8.1 that is set to debut at the BUILD developer conference in just a couple of weeks’ time.

But reports of updated builds of the operating system continue to reach the web.

The latest is that Windows 8.1 build 9422 has now been made available for download for select users. No ISO has been sighted so far, so this is probably just a version that is sent out to hardware vendors and partners for testing purposes.

Additionally, word is that some Chinese consumers have already received the Windows 8.1 update notification in the Windows Store, meaning they can download the preview build a fair bit earlier than the rest of the world.

The final stable version of the upcoming operating system is obviously scheduled to hit general availability status later this year, with August or September being the touted as the likely months of release.

It is around this time that a bunch of new Windows powered tablets are set to hit store shelves sporting the Windows 8.1 operating system.

Obviously, none of this is officially confirmed by Microsoft for the time being. So take these reports with a generous helping of salt until the software titan comes forth and provides us with more information.
