Been waiting for the next big thing? Windows 8.1 Update 1 is on track for launch next month, with April 8 pegged as the official launch day. That is for the rest of the mortals, obviously.

MSDN subscribers are said to be getting it before BUILD 2014 kicks off.

And that means the latest version of Windows could be up on the MSDN in a couple of days, as Redmond wants to give developers a chance to deploy and try out this new pack of improvements in time for the debut at the event.

This should allow the company to get in touch with developers, collect the feedback, and make any necessary last minute changes before the new version is delivered via Windows Update as a free download to users (and systems) running Windows 8.1.

Reports from the past couple of days have also suggested that Microsoft plans to release standalone ISO images with Windows 8.1 Update 1 already in place.

This will allow users the ability to install the operating system fresh, without the need of first setting up Windows 8.1 and then downloading and deploying the update.

Either way, big things are in store for Windows 8.1 users soon, and if you are yet to install Windows 8.1 Update 1 the couple of times it leaked, then you might want to take a look at the MSDN files β€” provided Microsoft puts it up for subscribers ahead of BUILD 2014.

  1. What’s the price for a subscription to MSDN? I’d love the update early, but I want to know what’ll cost me.
