Windows 8 History Vault looks really good

History Vault as you know allows you to real time back up and restore data from your hard drive or hard drives.

The level of detail that has gone into the screens is pretty impressive.

You can use individual hard drives for the history vault as well as network shares.

This is something that Windows has needed for a while. It will be interesting to see how it actually works in practice…

    I think that until Microsoft kills the Registry, something it should have done years ago, this is never going to equal Time Machine.  If you haven’t used Time Machine, you may not realize that you can restore to a different computer, a different sized disk, even a different version of the OS–it doesn’t care.  The Registry poses a serious obstacle to all of these.  Now that I’ve tried it, it would be a very difficult feature to give up.
