If you thought Windows 8.1 Update 1 was the only new software release Microsoft had planned for spring this year, think again. The Windows Server team is also busy with their very own project.

The company has just announced that Windows Server 2012 R2 will also get a set of improvements.

These will launch alongside Windows 8.1 Update 1, in what will be an update that brings around minor UI enhancements to go with a few bug fixes, and the full set of monthly rollups and security fixes.

This was posted on the official blog:

“Microsoft is releasing an update to Windows 8.1 this spring which brings a range of new and enhanced capabilities to customers and partners. In coordination with this release, we will also release a minor update to Windows Server 2012 R2 at that time.”

Not much has been provided in terms of in depth details, or launch date.

But all signs point to Windows 8.1 Update 1 debuting in April. For this reason, it is reasonable to expect the server updates to be released alongside, or around the same time.
