While Windows 8.1 landed on the Windows Store for Windows 8 users this past Thursday, a number of Redmond’s new products officially saw daylight on Friday, October 18.
These include the retail boxed version of Windows 8.1, along with the general availability of Windows Server 2012 R2, the System Center 2012 R2, a new version of Windows Intune and many such tools that were recently updated.
Microsoft made Windows Server 2012 R2 official in a blog post going over several of the new additions to its sever operating system including improved storage features, enhanced virtualization capabilities and streamlined network functions, among others.
The Windows Server Team stated:
“The Cloud OS vision combines Microsoft knowledge and experiences with today’s trends and technology innovations to deliver a modern platform of products and services that helps organizations transform their current server environment into a highly elastic, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure.”
You can go over many of the refinements and new enhancements in this latest version of Windows Server in the detailed blog post above, but Microsoft is also offering a free trial version of Windows Server 2012 R2 on TechNet and MSD that lasts for a full 180 days.
The company is also offering a Windows Server 2012 R2 image in the Windows Azure Image gallery that allows for the instant provision of virtual machines with the new OS.
